STORY TIME
In the summer of 1989, Indianapolis Raceway Park came alive with the Super Chevy Show, a huge celebration of all things Chevrolet. Picture it as a traveling museum + racing festival + family fair, all centered on America’s favorite performance brand.
Chevy fans from everywhere brought their pride and joy: Camaro Z/28s, classic Corvettes, vintage Chevelles, monster trucks and wild customs. Every car was polished, tuned and ready to impress at a massive car show judged by experts and admired by thousands of fans.
On the dragstrip, the volume went through the roof. Bracket racing, vintage showdowns and even jet cars lit up the track. Whether you were a true gearhead or just loved the roar of a V8, there was something for everyone.
Vendors showed off the latest gadgets, kids raced radio-controlled cars and drivers mingled with fans. If you were lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of iconic cars like the “Pre Historic Rat” or the “Faded Memories.”
Even though video and photos of the 1989 show are hard to find today, T-shirts, dash plaques and magazines from that weekend still turn up, proof that it wasn’t just a car show, but a memory maker. 🏁
