Story Time

Hometown Pride USA: Truckee's Fourth of July Rally 🇺🇸

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Truckee united under the slogan Hometown Pride USA, a genuinely American celebration that transformed Independence Day into a true declaration of love for their hometown.
Organized by the Downtown Merchants Association, the Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce, volunteers, and later the City itself, the event combined the warmth of small communities with the patriotic energy of large celebrations: a parade through historic downtown, families lining Donner Pass Road, and fireworks reflecting off the waters of Donner Lake.

As the years went by, the tradition grew and became more and more spectacular.
Annual themes encouraged creative floats, the Firecracker Mile kicked off the day with a sunrise race, and pancake breakfasts, vintage fire trucks, equestrian teams, and even a Wells Fargo stagecoach wove Truckee’s frontier past into its present.

Over time, the “Hometown Pride USA” label disappeared, but not the spirit: today the Truckee 4th of July Parade retains the same community pride and star-spangled joy as always.
