Story Time

Born for the saddle, worn by the world

Launched in 1947, Wrangler was born with a very specific purpose: to make jeans that really worked for cowboys. The brand was developed by Blue Bell and designed with the help of rodeo tailor Ben “Rodeo Ben” Lichtenstein, who knew the demands of life on horseback intimately. The result was the now iconic 13MWZ “Cowboy Cut” model: flat rivets that wouldn’t scratch the saddle, felled seams to prevent chafing, seven belt loops for greater belt stability, and a fit designed to ensure freedom of movement in the saddle.

In the 1950s and 1960s, Wrangler built its reputation by staying true to its roots. Heavier denim, sanforized fabrics to reduce shrinkage, and consistent, rugged construction made the brand a standard in Western apparel. In 1974, Wrangler became an official sponsor of the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association, solidifying its status as an authentic cowboy brand.
