STORY TIME
The New York Giants made history in the 1986-87 NFL season, winning their fifth championship and their first Super Bowl title! With an extraordinary 14-2 regular-season record, the Giants, led by season MVP linebacker Lawrence Taylor and Super Bowl MVP quarterback Phil Simms, established themselves as the league's dominant force.

In Super Bowl XXI, the Denver Broncos started strong, but the Giants' defense quickly took control. After a close first half, the Giants exploded in the third quarter with 17 consecutive points, closing the game at 39-20. Coach Bill Parcells' iconic "Gatorade shower" was the perfect ending to a perfect game!

Story Time

1987 Super Bowl XXI🗽🏈

On January 25, 1987, a crowd of 101,063 enthusiastically packed the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, for Super Bowl XXI, marking the fourth time in a decade that the stadium had hosted the grand final. Tickets averaged $75 (equivalent to about $171.84 today), making it the last moderately affordable Super Bowl before the price hike.

Super Bowl XXI set a new standard for pregame festivities, featuring a performance by the Beach Boys, a departure from traditional marching bands. Neil Diamond, of "Sweet Caroline" fame, sang the National Anthem, followed by a coin toss featuring Packers legend Willie Davis. The coin landed on the tails for the third consecutive year, and the Giants kicked off the game.

Although the CBS broadcast attracted fewer viewers than in previous years, it was still a colossal event: approximately 119.7 million Americans tuned in, a testament to the Super Bowl's enduring popularity.
