The screen-printed front graphic depicts the entrance to "Woodland Trails" with a charming camping-style character, surrounded by trees and details inspired by the scouting world. A typically American design that evokes the atmosphere of summer camps and outdoor activities of the era.

The Allison label is an excellent indicator of 1970s production, while the fabric is a 50% cotton and 50% polyester blend. The print is made using traditional screen printing and still retains vibrant and well-defined colors.

Story Time

Woodland Trails Scout Camp: A World Built in the Woods

Woodland Trails Scout Reservation in Camden, Ohio, was not created as a fully formed camp. The Miami Valley Council purchased over 2,000 acres of land in 1958, opened for its first summer season in 1959, and officially adopted the name Woodland Trails in 1960. The original plan was ambitious, featuring two camps and two man-made lakes, but economic constraints and changing enrollment numbers led to a reduction in scope. What remained was built gradually: dirt roads, cleared campsites, one partially completed lake, patrol cooking, service projects, and young trees planted by Scouts and staff on land that had recently been agricultural fields.

By the 1970s, Woodland Trails was much more than just a local summer camp. Contemporary guides described it as a 2,000-acre environmental education area, complete with woodland trails, glacial terrain, rock outcroppings, fossils, wildflowers, wildlife, canoeing, sailing, and conservation activities. It still retained a semi-rustic character—buildings were not fully winterized, and the camp functioned best as an outdoor classroom during the warmer months. At the same time, it was becoming an important regional Scouting center, hosting Order of the Arrow events and training young staff members who helped define its culture.

Its subsequent history followed a path common to many historic Scout camps: maturation, adaptation, and eventual decline. A new dining hall was built in 1990, Mystic Lake was drained in 1999 due to dam issues, hundreds of acres were sold off in 2000, and the remaining property was finally put up for sale in the 2020s.
