Original vintage t-shirt from the late 70s on a Towncraft by JCPenney blank, featuring a front graphic of Kool-Aid Man saying "Hey Kool-Aid! Oh Yeahhhh!" and a red back print of "I Chugged Linda Lovelace". The print on the back makes the item much rarer and more distinctive, linked to the adult humor and provocative pop culture of the 70s, not just a simple Kool-Aid promo.

The fabric is light and semi-transparent, made of 50% Fortrel polyester and 50% Pima cotton, typical of American promotional t-shirts from that era. Original Towncraft label size 42, V-neck, 70s slim fit, and finishes that appear to be single stitch on the sleeves and hem. Estimated production circa 1975–1980. Both graphics have natural cracking and age-related fading, especially the back one which shows signs of fragility.

Shipping and Returns

Orders are processed within 1-3 business days and entrusted to the most suitable courier based on the destination and type of package.
Shipping is free for orders over €100 in Italy and EU countries (zones 1-2) , while in other cases the costs are calculated automatically at checkout.

The right of withdrawal can be exercised within 14 days of delivery . Items must be returned in the same condition in which they were received and as described in the listing.

La T-shirt più assurda degli anni ’70

Questa grafica unisce due delle icone più riconoscibili, e completamente opposte, dell’America degli anni ’70. Sul davanti compare il Kool-Aid Man, la brocca antropomorfa che debuttò in televisione nel 1975 irrompendo attraverso i muri al grido di “Oh Yeah!” dopo il richiamo dei bambini “Hey Kool-Aid!”. Sebbene il preparato Kool-Aid esistesse già dal 1927, la mascotte reinventò completamente il marchio per una nuova generazione. La sua abitudine a sfondare muri, la personalità esagerata e il tormentone inconfondibile lo trasformarono in uno dei personaggi pubblicitari di maggior successo del decennio, espandendosi oltre gli spot televisivi in fumetti, giocattoli e merchandising. Alla fine degli anni ’70, il Kool-Aid Man non vendeva più soltanto una bevanda: era ormai una vera icona della cultura pop.

Il retro è invece dedicato a Linda Lovelace, la cui interpretazione in Deep Throat (1972) la rese un’improbabile celebrità mainstream. A differenza dei precedenti film per adulti, Deep Throat divenne un autentico fenomeno culturale grazie agli incassi senza precedenti, al pubblico composto anche da celebrità e alle controversie nazionali legate ai processi per oscenità. Quotidiani, programmi televisivi e riviste discussero ampiamente del film, contribuendo alla nascita del termine “porno chic”, il breve periodo in cui la pornografia entrò nel dibattito pubblico. Anche chi non aveva mai visto il film conosceva il nome di Linda Lovelace, rendendola una delle figure più celebri e controverse del decennio.

Non è mai esistito alcun collegamento ufficiale tra Kool-Aid e Linda Lovelace. La maglietta sfrutta semplicemente il contrasto tra due simboli immediatamente riconoscibili degli anni ’70: da una parte la pubblicità familiare e spensierata, dall’altra uno dei fenomeni culturali più controversi del decennio. Grazie alla diffusione delle iron-on transfers e dei piccoli serigrafi indipendenti, T-shirt novelty come questa divennero un modo popolare per mescolare riferimenti della cultura pop in battute irriverenti e surreali, incarnando perfettamente l’umorismo senza regole tipico degli anni ’70.
