STORY TIME
The 31-31 game between #4 Florida and #7 Florida State, played on November 26, 1994, is remembered as a dramatic, intense matchup, even though it ended in a tie. The showdown, which went down in history as the “Choke at Doak,” had enormous stakes, with both teams ranked in the Top 10.
Florida head coach Steve Spurrier, famous for his provocative remarks, had stoked the tension by taunting FSU before the game. For all his trash talk, Spurrier had never managed to win at Doak Campbell Stadium.
Florida dominated early on, building a 31-3 lead, but Florida State staged an incredible fourth-quarter comeback to tie the game. Although it officially remained a tie, for FSU players and fans it was a moral victory, while for Florida it is still a bitter memory.
To this day, that game remains a defining moment in the historic rivalry between Florida and Florida State.
