Shipping and Returns

In 1997 the fans ofStar Trekthey received something revolutionary: theThe Official Star Trek Fact FilesPublished weekly, each 28-page issue was not a traditional magazine, but a set of detachable, perforated cards to be filed in binders. Issue after issue, readers built what would become the largest in-universe encyclopedia ofStar Treknever printed: 7,904 pages spread across 304 issues. The sheets covered ships, species, maps, characters and technologies, fromTOSuntilVoyager(including the first nine films), like witnessing the birth ofMemory Alphain real time.

The series was a true phenomenon. At its peak in the UK it sold half a million copies a week, becoming the magazine ofStar Trekbest-selling book of all time. The editions spread to Germany, France, Italy and Japan, but curiously not to the United States, where the content was instead adapted inStar Trek: The MagazineFans loved the richness of detail, though some criticized the editors' β€œbest guesses” when canonical data was missing.

Behind the scenes, Paramount licensed and supervised production, turning it into an unsuspected source of revenue. By the late 1990s, licensing revenues fromFact Fileswere among the major revenues related to the franchise.
