Vintage tee from the Gospel Announcers Guild, the section of the Gospel Music Workshop of America that brings together gospel radio announcers and DJs, made for the 1996 GMWA national convention in Pittsburgh. On the front, under the arched purple and yellow “Gospel Announcers Guild – GMWA” lettering, a flaming crucible spills out a microphone, an “EXTRA!!” newspaper, a TV, a fax, a CD and an arena: all the media announcers work in. Below is a purple steel beam with the motto “Strength Through Diversity” and the word “Pittsburgh”, in a multicolor screen print.
Made on a heather gray Fruit of the Loom Best blank in a cotton-poly blend, made in the USA, with a ribbed crew neck and a plain back. Original period Fruit of the Loom Best tag. The print has some light wear from age.
A piece of African American gospel music history, with a richly detailed illustrated graphic and a clear link to Pittsburgh, the Steel City. For collectors of event tees, radio and ’90s Americana.
